What is The Well Circle?

The Well Circle is a community organization geared towards Muslim women, focused on health & wellness and how those align with our Islamic practices. We explore, for example, how a particular sunnah practice may have physical and / or mental health benefits in addition to the spiritual benefits and reward in dunya or akhirah. We emphasize Quran because it’s at the center of our deen & Allah ﷻ tells us there is shifa (healing) in it.

"O humanity! Indeed, there has come to you a counsel from your Lord, a cure for what is in the chests, a guide, and a mercy for the believers." [Quran 10:57]

There are two main elements to our approach:

1 – education: through social media content, the blog, talks, written guides, and the upcoming podcast

2 – experiential learning: live events, like our Well-Together gatherings & upcoming conference, and virtual programs, like our Quran circle

Who started The Well Circle?

Salam friends! Peace be upon you. My name is Rend Diab, and I am the founder of The Well Circle. I’ve been on my own journey for many years to be my best self and, ultimately, find well-being. Even before I went to medical school and became a practicing ophthalmologist, I was interested in what we used to call “complementary medicine.” Nowadays, complements or alternatives to Western allopathic medicine have become more mainstream. With the prevalence of social media and its influencers, many people are self-proclaimed health experts of varying types. But it’s often challenging to know what’s true, what’s beneficial, and what’s merely someone trying to sell a product or gain followers.

As a consumer of today’s wellness information, much of it hasn’t resonated with me because it feels secular and doesn’t acknowledge my Islamic way of life. My litmus test for what is valuable versus what I can pass over is to compare to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah. If it correlates with something already taught to us by our Prophet ﷺ then it has merit. If it opposes something from our deen, then it is more harm than good. For that reason, I felt passionate about developing The Well Circle.
